Write about a conversation that changed you.

Prompt Response: A conversation that changed my life was a conversation about the real world and how to take care of myself in today's world. The conversation made me really focused on what I want to major in when i'm in college and what occupation I want to have or if i'm going to start my own business. It also made me stay on top of my work and more organized with what needs to be done in order pass the classes I have. Summary: Today in class we took notes on evidence to support your claim in an argument. Reflection: I learned how to make a claim and an opposing claim about a topic and provide evidence for both claims.

Write about something that you believed as a child.

Prompt Response: Something that I believed when I was a child was that Santa Claus was real. As a kid I believed everything my parents told me, but as I grew up I realized that half of the things they've told me weren't true, like Santa Claus being real. Around middle school it came to mind that my parents, grandparents, cousins, aunties and uncles were the ones who bought me my gifts for Christmas, but still to this day they say "maybe Santa Claus will get it for you." Summary: In class we talked about rhetoric and targeted audiences in commercials, political ads and debates. Reflection: I learned more on how to back up a claim with evidence and how to get the attention of my targeted audience.

Write about a fear you have overcome.

Prompt Response: A fear that I've overcome was meeting new people because before going into middle school and high school, I didn't know how to get to know new people because I didn't know if they were either going to be rude or nice, so I won't get embarrassed, I just let people come up to me and let them ask if they wanted to be my friend. I still do this till this day, but not as often compared to when I did it in elementary school. Summary: Today in class we worked on identifying a claim in a text, the type of claim and writing an opposing claim after. Reflection: I learned how to identify what type of claim is used in a text and how to make up an opposing claim off the original claim.

As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society?

Prompt Response: An issue or topic that I would most often have to debate about with family is financial purposes and what things I buy with my money because there's going to be some disagreements on some things that I get for myself or others.  Summary: In class we talked about the different types of claims and how they are used. Reflection: I learned how to back up my claim with evidence and how to back up a topic by using claim of policy and claim of fact.

Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

Prompt Response: A truth that I was afraid to accept was that I was irresponsible. I didn't want to accept it because I believed that I was very responsible with things like doing work, chores, etc. As I grew up I realized that I was doing a lot of procrastinating when it comes to tasks that I needed to do, which made me change my ways and stay more organized and on task with my assignments and chores that are needed to be done.  Summary: In class we talked about Ethos, Pathos and Logos and how they are used in advertisements and prompts.  Reflection: I learned how to identify Ethos, Pathos, and Logos in a prompt.

Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

Prompt Response: A time where I felt judged unfairly was when I joined a soccer team when I was little, but when I joined some of the girls were saying things about me. They thought I wouldn't get the ball in the goal, they thought I didn't know what I was doing and that I was going to be the reason they lost a game. Summary: Today we read a CommonLit about what fear and what it teaches us. Reflection: I learned that fear can have a large impact on your life.

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

Prompt Response: If I was learning about Hispanic heritage month, I would be curious to learn about what foods they make everyday, how it's prepared and where it comes from. Another thing I would like to learn about is what music they like to listen to in their free time or celebrating with families. Summary: Today we continued to talk about the writing process and how to pre-write and how to think of a thesis statement. Reflection: I learned how to cluster my ideas to put them into a sentence to support my thesis statement.
